On September 21, 2006, Bernice and I went with Carol and David Holcomb to see some of what happened when Mount St Helens erupted on May 18, 1980. This is a picture showing that there was a fall-out of six to eight feet of ash many miles below the mountain. We saw the mountain about eleven years ago and saw thousands of dead trees. Now, with careful replanting, the mountain sides are once again green with trees.
On September 11, 2006, we, Bernice & VerNon Bingham, were on a cruise coming from Whittier, Alaska, to Vancuver, British Colombia. We left on Saturday September 9. The third day out we were in Glacier Bay and got very close to this beautiful glacier. Bernice was facinated by the bue color at the top of the glacier. We did manage to get a short video of some calving. We will try to locate it for another blog entree.
